Doctor Walter Blaxland was born in 1850 in New South Wales, Australia. He was a son of John Blaxland and Ellen Falkner; and grandson of Gregory Blaxland, one of the intrepid explorers who first found a route across the Blue Mountains.[1]
He studied for and became a medical doctor.
He married Laura Downer in 1892 at Port Adelaide, South Australia.[2]
In 1916, aged 66 years, he volunteered as an honorary medical officer at Randwick Military Hospital, where he remained until 1920.
He passed away, aged 88 years, on 28th February 1939 in New South Wales.[3] He was survived by a son, Gregory, engineer of Sydney, and five daughters: Dorothy wife of John Laming, of Western Australia; Alison wife of Hubert Simpkins, of Adelaide; Frances, wife of Commander Wheatley, of Vaucluse; Helen wife of Lionel Rose, of Cootamundra; Mrs A Balfour Scott, of Bristol, England.[4]
