Robert was born in 1572. He was the second son of Edmund Blood, probably by Margaret Unknown, his wife at the time of his death. Robert's father Edmund lived in the hamlet of Makeney in the parish of Duffield, Derbyshire, and this was Robert's likely place of birth.
In his father's 20 Jun 1587 will, Robert received 20 marks (about £13) to be paid to him within eight years from Margaret's share of Edmund's estate.[1]
On 25 Jun 1605, Robert was deposed in the lawsuit pitting his brother William against his brother Edmund, Jr. From this deposition we not only know Robert was still alive, but also that he had moved to the parish of Dalbury. He gave his age as about 32 years (so a year of birth of 1572 or 1573), and confirmed he had received his bequest from his father's will.[2]
Robert in Dalbury: Robert's residency in the parish of Dalbury not later than his 25 Jun 1605 deposition is interesting. There are hints his father Edmund may have come from Dalbury. Robert may be this Robert Blood of Dalbury who appeared out of nowhere and fathered two sons in that parish in 1604 and 1606. That Dalbury Robert named his second son Edmund, a name not recorded among the Dalbury Bloods prior to that.
