John Henry was born in 1840. He was the son of Matthew Blood and Marianne Blood. He passed away in 1890.[1]
John Henry Smyth-Blood, born in Kapunda on 10 December 1840, second son of Dr. Matthew Henry Smyth-Blood (1806-1883) and Marianne Charlotte Blood (1816-1900), was a member of one of the Overland Telegraph construction parties (storekeeper). Afterwards he was Postmaster and Telegraph Officer at Peake Station. Blood's Creek was named after him. His father was the founder of the Masonic Lodge in Kapunda under the Irish Constitution, and John was a Past Grand Master and Secretary and Treasurer of the Auburn Lodge, holding the two latter positions through special diploma. He married Mary Enock (1852-1929) and together they had five children: Matthew Henry (1876-1912), John Johnnie (1881-1950), William Frederick (1884-1913), Kathleen (1887-1948), and Margaret Marion (1890-1920). He died aged 49 in 1890.[2]
