Biography

Jane was born in 1768. She married John Laws and was widowed with two small children. She married William Richardson in about 1786. She died in 1838.

From Findagrave:

Mrs. Jane Laws (Richeson) Richardson nee Bobbitt was born in 1766 probably on her father's plantation in Pittslyvania Co., Virginia. Jane, first child of Capt. William Levi and Nancy Ann (McKenize) Bobbitt.

She was first married to an older gentleman, John Laws, who later died leaving her widowed with two small children: William and Elizabeth. Sometime in the 1780s, Jane moved with the Bobbitt Family to Carroll Co., Virginia. There she met and married William Richardson, a militiaman who served in the Virginia Militia under Jane's father Capt. William Levi Bobbitt, and she would make that county her home up until 1800. In that year, Jane and her some of family moved to Pulaski Co., Kentucky.

Jane's father received a large land grant for his service to the United States during the Revolutionary War. She along with her sibling were given the right by her father to farm and settle in the Flat Lick area near Somerset Kentucky. In 1810 Jane lost her second husband William to smallpox. William had gone on a trip to secure some salt from a salt mine some where in the area. On the way back home, he and his companion stop to help a sick man along the trail. Unfortunately, William had contracted the dread disease from that man and upon returning home he had past smallpox to his entire family but he was the only one to loose his life.

Around 1818 Jane had settled William's estate and settled selling her father Capt. Bobbitt land grant by selling it to her brother James Bobbitt. Jane was now free to move yet again to Decatur Co., Indiana. Being widowed with children under her care she probably moved in his her oldest son William Laws and made her home with him.
