Biography

Hendrick was baptized on 6 February 1661 in the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam, recorded as the child of Boele Roelofszen and Bayken Arents. Witnesses were Gerrit Janszen Roos and Tryntie Arents.^[1]

Research Notes

This profile was created as Henry Van Houten, based on Ancestral File Number G5VJ-CL, which shows Henry Van Houten, parents unknown, baptized in New York, New York, New York on 6 Feb 1661. That date and location corresponds to the baptism of Hendrick, son of Boele Roelofszen and Bayken Arents. Another Ancestral File entry was used to create a profile for a Catherine Van Houten, citing the baptism date of Tryntje, also a child of Boele Roelofszen and Bayken Arents. Apparently the entries in the Ancestral File result from a mistaken interpretation by someone who erroneously equated Boele Roelofszen with Roelof Cornelissen (a.k.a. van Houten). These are two entirely different men. I am replacing the parents on this profile (currently Roelof Cornelissen (a.k.a. van Houten) and Gerritje Van Ness) with Boele Roelofszen and Bayken Arents. This man's LNAB is Boelen, the name recorded for him in 1684 when he witnessed the baptism of his brother's son Abraham. Ellen Smith, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
