Biography

Elizabeth Bowman was probably the daughter of John Bowman and Elizabeth Elam Nunnally Bowman. Previous versions of this profile suggested Elizabeth was born about the same time as her husband, Jeffrey Robertson (c1654). However, if that were the case, Elizabeth would have been bearing all of her children when she was over 46 years old. Support for the argument that she was born closer to c1685 can be found in a posting in Wikitree’s G2G Forum, by Jim Bowman, dated 27 July 2021. There is also little doubt that Elizabeth has often been confused with her mother, with many on-line sources reporting Elizabeth's middle name as "Elam". No evidence for a middle is recorded in available records and such has been removed from this profile.

Elizabeth probably married Jeffrey Robertson shortly before 1700. Jeffrey's 1734 will names at least seven children, all roughly born c1700-1722, as well as wife Elizabeth.

Shortly after Jeffrey died, Elizabeth remarried to Hugh Bragg of Amelia County. Bragg died by 6 June 1736 and Elizabeth is also named in his will, as a widow of Jeffrey Robertson.

Elizabeth probably died in Amelia County c1739.

If Elizabeth Bowman was born in 1655, how could she have been the mother of 8 children born between 1703 and 1723 ?
