Ministry "Benjamin Bowman was the founder of a family that has furnished many members and ministers to [the German Baptist Brethren, later known as] the Church of the Brethren. He ... moved to the Nettle Creek [IN] church shortly after its organization [about 1820]. When David Miller moved to Northern Indiana, about 1830, Benjamin Bowman succeeded him as elder, remaining in charge a number of years. He was an able preacher, speaking freely in both English and German. He was active both in local and general church work. ... Late in life he married the widowed mother of George W. Studebaker. He then moved to her home in the Mississinewa congregation, where he died February 21, 1856. He lies buried in the Eaton cemetery. Four of his sons followed him in the ministry." (Winger 1917, p 315)
