Biography

Elizabeth Bowtell

She was born about 1751. She is the daughter of Charles Bowtell and Rebecca Lagden.
Her father passed away in 1765, being buried at Lindsell, Essex, England on 10 Aug 1765. The register gives his age as 39 years. He bequeathed Elizabeth a freehold in Thaxted. [1] In his will, proved 18 Aug 1765, Charles confirmed the settlement made on his wife Rebecca at mariage, including a copyhold tenement called Browns, "wherein I now dwell" and a croft called Tainterill (containing 1 acre). [2]
She married Thomas Ford at Lindsell, Essex 31 Oct 1782. [3]

He give her a copyhold tenement called Browns, "wherein I now dwell"; a croft called Tainterill (containing 1 acre), copyholdland call Congles (containing 5 roods), "which I purchased of Thomas Lurcas. After her decease this was to go to their son Charles.
    • To son Charles, the copyhold cottage in the occupation of Thomas Bawey and John Cornell, and 1 close of land called Pethces (containing 10 acres) - To his son John Bowtell his copyhold cottage called God Love, "now in the occupation off Thomas Archer and Thomas Wakeling". Also a copyhold called Terrolds (4 acres), a croft called Well Croft (4 acres), a croft called Catshold, and others called Middlecroft and Cox Love (containing 2 acres) -
    • To his daughter Rebecca Bowtell his freehold messuages in Thaxted called Bardfield End Green, "now in the occupation of Richard Marshall and Roberet White" - To his daughter Elizabeth Bowtell his freehold called Nowbiggin. -
    • To his daughter Fanny Bowtell, freehold in Lindsell and Burstead Green, "now in the occupation of Jonas Derry" -
    • To his wife Rebecca, all his cattle, Corn, faming stock and household goods.
    • To his son Charles £55
    • To Rebecca and Elizabeth £40 each
    • Proved 18 Aug 1765.
