Biography
Newton was born about 1838. He is the son of Simeon Boyd and Mary Greer. In the 1850 census Newton (age 12) was in Police District 3, Pike, Mississippi, United States.[1] In the 1860 census Newt (age 23), Farmer, was in Pike, Mississippi.[2]
Private Newton Boyd served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: 26 Apr 1862 Mustered out: 1 July 1862 Side: CSA Regiment(s): Co. K, 38th Mississippi Infantry
Newton served with the Confederate forces during the US Civil War. He enlisted on 26 April 1862 in Holmesville, Mississippi, with Colonel P. Brent for a period of three years or until the end of the war. He was a private with Company K, 38th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry.[3] On 30 June 1862 he was absent sick. He had been serving with Captain Williams under Colonel Adams.
Newton died on 1 July 1862 at Okalona, Mississippi. His accrued pay of $99.20 was paid to his widow Ann America Boyd.[4] He was buried in Okolona Confederate Cemetery, Okolona, Chickasaw County, Mississippi, United States.[5][6]
