Biography

Martha Ann Breed, baptized 18 May 1831 at Hawley, Massachusetts [1], was the eleventh and final child of Catherine (Fish) Breed (1786-1878) & John Breed (1782-1853) [2].

Martha resided in 1850 at Union City, Erie County, Pennsylvania [3]. At this juncture, Martha was living in the household of her aunt Maria (Breed) and uncle Earl F. Steadman, who had in their youth migrated together with her own parents to the wilderness of northwestern Pennsylvania.

Martha married 18 May 1854 Hiram Judson Dowd. Martha was Hiram J. Dowd's 2nd wife. They had 3 children:

  1. Jasper E. Dowd (1855-1934)
  2. Jennie S. Dowd (abt.1860-1872)
  3. Susie A. (Dowd) VanPatten (1869-1940)

This family resided in 1860 and 1870 at Huron, Wayne County, New York[4],[5].

Martha Ann (Breed) Dowd died 29 Aug 1878; she and her husband were buried in Huron Evergreen Cemetery, near Wolcott, New York [6].
