Biography

Robert Ramsey has the following on the Brevard family[1]:

"John G. Herndon, author of a number of articles containing references to early settlers of Carolina, has an excellent account of the history of the Brevard family. Of Huguenot origin, the Brevards made their way to northern Ireland after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes and came to America sometime prior to 1711. They settled in Maryland, where, in 1726, John Brevard was an elder from "Upper Elk" in attendance at a meeting of the New Castle Presbytery.

Sometime after 1740, three of John Brevard's sons (Robert, John and Zebulon) left Maryland (probably upon the death of their father) and set out for North Carolina."

In a history of Mecklenburg County it states "John, Robert and Zebulon and their married sister and husband migrated to the Yadkin and Catawba country about 1747, and settled in what was subsequently Rowan, and since Iredell County."[2]

On 28 September 1750 Zebulon petitioned for a grant of 500 acres of land in NC.[3]

Since Zebulon was living in NC at least by 1747, he could not have married Ann Templeton in MD. Additionally, Ann's father David Templeton Senior was known to have been living in NC on Coddle Creek by, at least, 1752 when he received his first land grant.[3]

Per a deed action in 1777 for a Samuel Young, it appears John Brevard and Zebulon Brevard were neighbors.[3]

Burke County deeds show Zebulon was given a deed in 1787 in that county.[4]

Ruth Cohlmia, after decades of research on early NC Templetons, states Zebulon did marry Ann Templeton. Zebulon signed for Ann's portion of her brother Samuel's estate. As to Zebulon, Ms. Cohlmia states his will was proved in 1799 in Burke County, NC, but the will has since been lost. The names of Samuel's children require proof from other records.[5][6]

Bevard-31 and Brevard-11 appear to represent the same person because it appears the two Zebulon mentioned in the two profiles are the same person, but the name is Brevard and not Bevard.
