Joseph Brockman was born about 1743 in Orange County, Virginia.[1] He was the son of John Brockman and Mary Collins.[2]
Joseph served in the Revolutionary War. He is probably the same Joseph Brockman who applied for a pension in 1821, in Albemarle County, Virginia. In his application he stated he was 78 years old, and served 18 months as a private under Capt. Sudimon in the Regiment commanded by Coln. Davis, and secondly in the company commanded by Capt. William Price in the Regiment commanded by Colo. Mulenburg (Muhlenberg). He was in no battle while in the service. He was discharged in Powhatan County, Virginia. He gave his occupation as a "coarse Shoemaker" and said he was unable to pursue his work "owing to his infirmit and a stroke of the palsey in the right arm." He also stated he had no wife or child living with him.
In 1782 Joseph appeared on the personal property Tax List for Goochland County, Virginia. From 1786, he appeared in Fredericksville Parish, Albemarle County, near his brother William, and sporadically afterwards.[1]
He was married Apr 15, 1783 in Goochland County, Virginia, USA to Mary (Page) Brockman, daughter of Exolheath Page and wife Christian.[3] They had at least four children:[1]
Joseph may have moved to Orange County, North Carolina before moving to Woodruff, South Carolina of Spartanburg District[2] where he died in 1834.[1]
