Eliza Brown was the daughter of Jacob C Brown (1814-1891) and Sarah Price (1816-1847). She was first married to Ferdinand Frederick K Kimmel B: 20 Feb 1834-1860 and then to my Great Great Grandfather James E Green BIRTH Jan 1832 or 1833 • Seneca, Seneca Co OH; DEATH approximately 1902, in Bradford, Arkansas. In her later years in Little Rock, Arkansas she was married to Benjamin Franklin Truex (1860-abt 1916). Her second husband, James Green, was dead by at least January 1903 as his wife, Eliza Brown, had filed for widow benefits of Civil War Veterans in Arkansas in January 1903. Oakland Cemetery Sexton's Records, Vol. F, p. 2784 lists burial as on west side, lot 1286, Ash Avenue.
James Edward Green was born in Seneca County, Ohio Jan 1832 or 1833. His father was John W. Green (1810-1850) and his mother was Sarah Morehart (1815-1896). They lived in Wood County, Ohio through to the 1860 Census, then moved to Williams County, Centre Township, Ohio shortly thereafter. In 1861 James married Eliza Ann Brown-Kimmel (March 21, 1861) who already had one child, Harriet Kimmel (1859-1929), with Ferdinand Kimmel (1834-1860). Ferdinand Kimmel died shortly after Harriet was born.
James E. Green and Eliza Brown had their first son James Pride Green on June 21, 1862. James E. Green then joined the 111th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in Toledo, Ohio on August 15, 1862, where he played bugle and was a musician during the civil war. Civil War enumeration records dated June of 1863 indicated that James E. Green entered the Union Army with, William H. Green (1840-1901) and George Washington Green (1838-1899). William H. Green and George Washington Green were determined to be James E. Green’s brothers.
James survived the war and was mustered out in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina on June 27, 1865. He then returned to Williams County, Ohio and had his second son, Egbert Green (1866-1943). Around 1867-1868 the family moved to Grant Township, Clare County, Michigan, where he had a third son, Dr. William “Will” Clare Green (1868-1941), a daughter, Christia “Crissie” Sarah Green (1870-1957), and then sons John Austin Green (1872-1938) and Rawson “Rossie” Jacob Green (1875-1978).
The James E. Green family then moved to Lincoln Township, Washington County, Kansas sometime after Rawson Green was born (1875). This was documented within the 1880 Census records. They then located to Gypsum, Saline County, Kansas and were there by record (Grand Army of the Republic Post Reports) in 1885. The Grand Army of the Republic Post Reports indicated James E. Green lived in Gypsum from about 1885-1893. James’ children then began to get married and scatter. James and Eliza remained in Kansas until the mid to latter 1890s, then located to Bradford, Arkansas (as found in the 1900 census).
James E. Green died on an unknown date 1902; Eliza had filed for widow benefits of civil war veterans in January 1903. James Edward Green is buried in an old overgrown and secluded cemetery (Robb Cemetery) just south of Bradford, Arkansas. His last son, Rawson "Ross" Jacob Green, was born 15 Apr 1875 in Clare County, Michigan, and died Jun 1978 in Miami, Dade, Florida. It is unknown to me where Rawson’s remains were interred. James’ wife Eliza later married a man named Benjamin Truex (1835-1916?) in Arkansas about 1907. James Green would be my Great Great Grandfather, through his son Egbert Green.
