Richard Brown was a Maryland colonist.

Col Richard Brown was born May 18, 1739 in Frederick County, Maryland, USA. He died Mar. 24, 1811 in Brooke County, West Virginia, USA. Richard married Honour Wells Holmes. Parents George I. Brown and Mary Stevenson.

Col. Richard Brown was at first a captain in the lst Batallion of Col Miles' Regiment, Pennsylvania Rifles. His recruitment was in Bedford Co, PA April 15, 1776.(1) See Record PA. Library, Book One Second Series, Penn Archives.

His wife's first husband was one Wm. M. Holmes, who was also an Englishman and CAME TO AMERICA ABOUT 1700 AS DID JAMES WELLS. He married Honor Wells, dau. of said James Wells, and to this lst marriage of Honor Wells Homes Brown were given: Leonorah, William, James, Sarah, Elizabeth, Thomas and Alexander. Holmes died in 1758, and then she married Col. Richard Brown as aforesaid. How long he was in the war for Independence is not known.
