Biography

Samuel Brown, the son of William Brown, was born "at Plymouth the beginning of March 1655/56."[1] His marriage, the births of his children, and his death are all recorded in Eastham:

"Samuel Browne and Martha harding weare maried : the : 19th of feburarie : in the year : 1682
Samuel browne a daughter borne named bethia the : 22nd : of Jenuarie : in the year : 1683 and died in June the 27 : in the year : 1685
Samuel browne another daughter borne named bethia the ninth day of September in the year : 1685
Martha Browne the daughter of Samuel browne was borne June the : 24th in the year of our lord god : 1688
Samuel browne the son of Samuel Browne was born the 7th day of November in the year of our lord . 1690
Martha Browne the dauther of Samuel Browne : died on the 4th day of November in the year . 1691
Samuel Browne senior died on the third day of december in the year : 1691 being aged about thirty one years [2][3]

An inventory of the estate of "Samuel Browne of Eastham who Deceased on the third of December 1691", intestate, was taken on 09 April 1692. "Martha Browne vid Relict of ye above sd Damuel Browne" made oath to the inventory on 20 April 1692. Martha to have 1/3 of the estate for her life, and £20 additional towards bringing up the children. The rest of the estate to be divided amongst the children, with a double portion to the son. John Collens of Eastham appointed guardian to Samuel and Bethiah Brown 19 April 1697.[4][5]

From the probate records of Harding-52:

"Granted by the town of Eastham at a Town meeting on the 26th day of July 1703 to the name or heirs of Josiah Cooke Samuel Brown and John Harding all late of sd Eastham deceased to have and to hold to their heirs executors Administrators and assigns for ever a parcel of medow lying and being in sd Eastham at a place called the great medow on the Southern side of the medow it being the third lot soe called in sd Great medow and this grant is approved by the major part of the men appointed to have a negative vote in disposing of land within sd town and is laid out and bounded (viz) northwesterly by the Second lot and from the Eastern corner bound of sd second lot it runs southeasterly by the river sixteen pole to a stake from thence it runs southwesterly twenty pole to a stake & from thence westerly nine pole to measure strait over to the corner bound of the second lot but the lot runs home to the crick between the two last mentioned bounds.
