Biography

This profile is part of the Earls Colne, Essex One Place Study.

Cornelius Brownson appears in the Parish records of Earls Colne, on May 12, 1560 at the baptism of his daughter Priscilla.[1] [2]

He therefore died after this date. Claims of birth dates and burial, imported through various mergers, are unsourced.

Research Notes

He may be the Cornelius Browne, who was a witness at trial of Peter Loveday, for theft, on April 27, 1652,[3] and the Corn Browne who was on a list of tenants of the Colne Priory Manor on January 3, 1656.[4]

The sources of this profile previously represented two different people. One was lived in Earl's Colne, Essex, England, and the other was born and died in Parwick Hall, Derbyshire. The Derbyshire Cornelius lacks sources and was removed.

Also, It doesn't look like his wife is named in the christening record for his daughter. Do we have any source for his wife's name?

Edit: I see we have her will on her profile. That should probably be mentioned here as well. We should note, however, that there seems to be no primary source evidence for her maiden name.

The research notes refer to a Cornelius Browne named in legal documents in the 1650s. Very unlikely those refer to the same man as this profile, who was born in the 1530s, at the latest, earlier if his attached son's birthdate is accurate.

Brownson-155 and Brownson-50 appear to represent the same person because: They have the same name and they have the same son.
