Gideon Brumfield was born in Guyan Township, Ohio on April 7, 1893^[1]. He was the son of Sloan Brumfield and Mary Farley.

At the time of the 1900 U.S. Census, Sloan (mistranscribed as "Slader"), Mary E, Birtha, Bettie, Pearl, Dora B, Gideon, Grace, Mahalia, and Hazel Brumfield were listed as living in Guyan Township, Ohio^[2].

At the time of the 1910 U.S. Census, Sloan, Mareetta, Bettie, Dora B, Gideon, Gael, Mahala, Hazel, Perry, John A, and Sanford Brumfield were listed as living in Guyan Township, Ohio, along with Sloan and Mary's granddaughter Mary N Brumfield^[3].

At the time of the 1930 U.S. Census, Gideon, Virgie, Virginia, Lucille, and Rose Marie Brumfield (mistranscribed as "Brimfield") were listed as living in Rome, Ohio, along with Gideon's nephew Robert Rucker^[4]. At the time of the census, Gideon's occupation was listed as "Laborer" on a farm.

At the time of the 1940 U.S. Census, Mary E Brumfield, her son Gideon, his wife Virgie, and Mary's sister Lewvenia Brown were listed as living in Crown City, Ohio^[5]. At the time of the census, Gideon's occupation was listed as "Farming".
