Lancelot Bulkeley DD was born in Anglesey, Wales.

He was the son of Sir Richard Bulkeley of Beaumaris, Angelsey, Wales and Agnes Needham, daughter of Thomas Needham Esq. of Stenton.



He entered Brasenose College, Oxford on 8 December 1587, aged 18, B.A. 10 Feb., 1590-1; M.A. from St. Edmund Hall 28 June, 1593; D.D. from Trinity College Dublin 1621, rector of Llanddyffnan, co. Anglesey, 1593-1619, and of Llandegfan 1594-1620, archdeacon of Dublin 1613-19, treasurer of Cashel 1634, preb. of St. Patrick's, Dublin, 1620, and archbishop of Dublin 1619, until his death 8 Sept., 1650. Church of Ireland Clergy

He was appointed by the Crown to be Archdeacon of Dublin. His patent is dated 5 May 1613. " A worthy man and good preacher" [Reg. Vis.] He succeeded as Archbishop of Dublin by patent dated 18 August 1619, and was consecrated at Drogheda, on 3 October 1619.

He held the following positions at the same time .

Prebendary of Castleknock (St Patrick's, Dublin) by a grant dated 27 March 1620.
Prebendary of Kilmactalway (St Patrick's, Dublin), 1630
Treasurer of Cashel, 1634

During the Irish Rebellion of 1641, according to a statement by Robert Parry of Dublin, Coachman and John Davies, also of Dublin, yeoman, the Archbishop had goods and cattle stolen. [3]

And this deponent John Davies also e further deposeth That the irish persons aboue named mencioned did at the same tyme and from growndes nere Haroldes Crosse aforesaid forceibly alsoe take & carry away of the goodes of the most reuerend father in God Lancelot Lord Archbishop of Dublin primate of Ireland his grace Nyne Cowes whereof 7 were of English breed & worth 5 li. a peece & the other 2 were worth 50 s. a peece in all worth Whereby and by the proffits & increase thereof which his lordship might have gained, he is dampnified [ 12 ] li. ster 50 li. ster, And the said lord irish persons neuer restored any of them back.

Lancelot married Alice Bulkeley, daughter of Roland Bulkeley of Conway.

Children of Alice and Lancelot:

He died at Tallaght, in the eighty-second year of his age, "being spent with grief for the calamities of the times" on 8 September 1650; and was buried in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin
