I found Sarah Eastman in the 1850 AND 1860 Federal Census. Based on the info below, her place of birth is Indiana. Looking at the 1850 census, Hazelwood Ashbury was 8 years old. In the 1860 Census he is 18 yrs. old. So he must have been born about 1842, most likely in Wisconsin since his parents were married there Feb 2, 1841. I'll see what else I can find on Ashbury and post it. If you find anything let me know.

I've come across mistakes in obituaries quite often. After someone has passed, the relatives get together and start comparing notes and mistakes do happen. Even the spelling of names is mixed up.

Also in From History of Grant County, Wisconsin, 1881, p. 977. TOWN OF WATERSTOWN He [John] was married, in 1841, to Miss Sarah Eastman, a native of Indiana, by whom he had thirteen children; six boys and three girls are now living. Asbury, the oldest, enlisted in the 3d W. V. C., in which he served until the close of the war, participating in all the battles of the regiment. John, Jr., was also in the same regiment, but was discharged for disability. Stephen also enlisted and served his country until the close of the war. Mrs. Burris came to Wisconsin with her parents in 1837. Her brother assisted in surveying the State. Her family on both sides were among the earliest settlers of this country, and fought in the Revolutionary war.

The obituary of his father, John Hansel Burris, says he came to Platteville (Wisc) in 1839, and married Sarah Eastman in 1840. The obituary of his mother, Sarah Eastman, says she was born in Pennsylvania and came with her parents (to Wisconsin) in 1828 and lived there until she married John Burris. but the marriage was in Feb 1840, which doesn't seem to agree with Asbury's birth in Ohio. If he was born out of wedlock to John and Sarah, it would most likely be in Wisconsin.
