Colonel Piers Butler, of Barrowmount, co. Kilkenny (dvp. being taken prisoner at Lambstown, co. Wexford, and killed after safe quarter was given 1650), was the son of Edward Butler, 1st Viscount of Galmoye.
He married after 20 Nov 1626 Hon Margaret Netterville, 2nd daughter of Nicholas [Netterville], 1st Viscount Netterville, by his first wife Elenor Bathe, 2nd daughter of Sir John Bathe, of Athcarne, co. Meath.
"Piers FitzThomas Butler died before his father in 1601, leaving two sons, Sir Edward Butler, Knight, of Duiske, and Sir Richard, of Knocktopher, whose son, Colonel Thomas Butler, was engaged in the [Irish] wars of 1641. Sir Edward Butler succeeded to his father's property, Duiske Abbey and its lands."
"Sir Edward married Anne Butler, daughter of the 2nd Lord Mountgarrett, and by her had several children, the eldest of whom was Piers Butler, who lived at Barrowmount, and who, engaging in the English Civil War on the King's side, was slain at Worcester in 1650, by Captain William Bolton."
