Biography
James was born in 1878, [1] the third son of Thomas Butterworth and Elizabeth.
In 1909 he married Bridget McCarthy[2] and had at least one child.
He was a miner during his early working life, like his father and brothers, eventually becoming a farmer.
He passed away in 1951[3] and is buried at Orowaiti New Cemetery in Westport with his wife.
