Biography
Jane Byrd Word was born in Laurens, South Carolina to Robert Clayton Word and Joyce Jones in 1813. [1][2][3]
On June 14, 1832, when Jane was 19, she married Charles Jefferson Hooper in Laurens, South Carolina. He was 25. They had 9 known children together before he died in 1848 in rural Mississippi. They were also second cousins, sharing great-grandparents Charles Word Sr (1709-1792) and Sarah Collins (1710-1783).
In the 1850 Federal Census, Jane Word Hooper is the head of her family's household: Household in Cassville, Cass, Georgia, USA: Jane Hooper 36 (widow), Robert C Hooper 17, Thomas T Hooper 16, William Hooper 16, Sarah Hooper 12, Mary Hooper 10, Charles Hooper 7, John W Hooper 3 . [4]
Jane married second James Dickenson Word, a widower, on November 22, 1854 in Bartow County Georgia. They knew each other well because her first husband was the younger brother of his second wife. Jane and James were also second cousins, through the same great grandparents by a different route!

I found Robert's will online in the South Carolina archives. It names his wife Joice Jones and each of the eight children I mentioned before. I also found information on Joyce at My Heritage (Elliott Web Site), and this one has her birth year as 1775 in Flat Creek, Laurens, SC and her death as 26 Mar 1875 in Georgia. It shows her parents as Edward Benjamin Jones and Elizabeth Kirton. I don't subscribe to this site so I don't know what documentation they have for what they show.
I found that she was living with Robert Campbell, her youngest son, and his family in Whitfield County, Georgia when the 1870 Census was taken. It listed her age as 84 (born in 1786) and birth place as Virginia [though I have to admit sometimes info in these Census records don't always add up based on info found in other places]. If this is correct, she would have been 7 when she and Robert married. See what I mean?
I will continue searching and will let you know what I find.

PS I do have a picture of Jane's gravestone in Iuka from a 2017 visit.
I believe Robert is the son of Thomas Word and Frances Dickerson. Thomas is the son of Charles Sr. and Sarah Word. Again, I'm not sure of this; but, his wife may be Sara Joyce Allen Jones. No idea who her parents may be. I found some of this in a family tree at Family Search, though the info could be suspect. It showed eight children born to them.
I have been corresponding with a Word descendant for about two years, and she just self-published a book on the Word line going back to John "The Immigrant". I've ordered a copy. As soon as I get it, I'll go through to see if there is anything that mentions Robert. I will look further into this, as I think I've run across something before in my searching that pertained to a Robert Word. My memory is not real great so it may take a while. I will let you know whatever I find.
I think the cousin relationship probably would be James Dickenson Word the son of Charles Word Jr. the son of Charles Word Sr. Robert Word the son of Thomas Word the son of Charles Word Sr. If I calculate correctly, James and Robert would be first cousins as Charles Jr and Thomas are brothers.

-- James is definitely the son of Thomas Adams Word b1768, son of Charles Word Jr b1740 +died at Kings Mtn 1780, who was the son of Charles Word senior b1709 d 1792. -- Jane is daughter of Robert Clayton Word b1773 d before 1830, son of Thomas C Word b1743 d 1843 (i.e. younger brother of Charles Word Jr Kings Mtn), whose father was Charles Word Sr b1709 d 1792. Jane's tree is all new to me but if above is true, accurate, YES this means James and Jane were second cousins.
