David was born in 1819 in Highgate, London, England, to Samuel Candland and Sarah Betts.
He was baptized Mormon on 6 May 1841, in London, England, by Lorenzo Snow. [1][2]
He was ordained with the Mormon priesthood in 1844 by Brigham Young in London, England.
He immigrated to the United States and worked as a scribe for Joseph Smith in Nauvoo, Illinois, publishing early Mormon pamphlets.
He journeyed on the Mormon Trail with his wives and children from Nauvoo, Illinois to Salt Lake City, Utah.
He founded Sanpete County, Utah. David was appointed as a U.S. Postmaster for Sanpete County in 1864.[3]
David was a Staff Officer for the Utah Territory Militia and Captain of the Sanpete Militia during the Black Hawk War, from 1866-1867.[4][5][6]
He was known to be an actor. David was assistant manager of the Deseret Dramatics Association. He was also the proprietor of the Globe Hotel. [7]
He was a County Prosecuting Attorney for Sanpete County, Utah in 1880[8]
He was set apart to join the Quorum of the Seventy.[9]
He passed away on 4 Mar, 8 Mar or 11 Mar 1902, depending on source. [10]
