Biography

Hannah Ann was born in 1840, in Pennsylvania.

In 1850, she was 10 yrs old and living with her family in Springfield, Ohio.^[1]

Hannah was an early LDS adherent and joined the Mormon Pioneers on the journey to Utah with her parents, Abraham Reister Wright and Mary Ann Brockerman.

She was a polygamous wife and mother in the Early Mormon church. She was the fourth wife in David Candland’s family. Her son, William D. Candland, became a Utah state Senator and died in 1940. ^[2]

She had 12 children with David Candland: Willie David Candland, Alfred John Candland, Frank Reister Candland, George Anthony Candland, Walter Stanley Candland, Arthur Charles Candland, Grace Maggie Candland, Mary Adelaide Candland, Ernest Conrad Candland, Hope Wright Candland, Faith Wright Candland, Claude Brockerman Candland.

She was the oldest living Mormon pioneer woman in Mt. Pleasant, Utah.

She passed away in 1932. ^[3][4][5][6]

• Family Gossip Note: I heard from my late grandmother, Marjorie Dibblee Gilbert (1917-1990), also later affirmed by my father, Stephen Burton Gilbert (1949- ), that Hannah was considered to be headstrong by David’s wives.
