One source states that the Rev. Edward Canning died in 1638; however, John Nicholl, in his SOME ACCOUNT OF THE IRONMONGERS, states that in 1658 Paul Canning wrote a letter to his brother Edward Canning at Agivey, regarding the lease of the Lizard Manor estate, subsequently assigned to their nephew, George Canning Sr.
Edward Canning was Rector of Desertogill in 1663. He also was in charge of the Chapel of Agivey, formerly called Our Lady's Chapel.
Edward Canning apparently had a son named Robert.
The Census of Ireland c1659 lists "Cornelius Wall & Edward Canning, gents", as residing in the Parish of Macosquin [Macosquy] in the Townland of Macosquin, several miles SW of Coleraine, co. Londonderry.
