Biography

Better known to the public as Tantoo, Rose was born in 1950. She is the daughter of Julia Cardinal.

Tantoo is a well-known Canadian and Native American actor who has appeared in a number of popular films like Dances With Wolves and and Black Robe as well as television series. She has also appeared on stage and in non-Native roles. She is a founding member of the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company, renamed Gordon Tootoosis Nikaniwin Theatre after his death. She has won a number of Canadian awards for her professional work in her field.

Tantoo is an activist and advocate for indigenous and environmental issues.

She has been married twice and has three children.

Research Notes

Rose's sister was taken from their family in the Sixties Scoop ^[1]. It's unclear if she was ever reunited.

She was raised by an unnamed grandmother, but it is unclear if it was her maternal or paternal grandmother.
