Biography

Alexander was the son of John Carey. His parents were natives of Maryland.

Alexander married Ruth Hall 4 Apr 1857 in Jefferson County, Ohio.^[1]

In 1860 he and Ruth had a daughter Jane, age 3. Wells Township, Jefferson, Ohio.^[2]

Annie was aged 1 in 1870 living in Wells Township, Jefferson, Ohio; her father Alexander in 1870 was age 29 b Ohio; his wife Ruth was age 28 b Ohio; Laura Carey was age 12 b Ohio; John Carey was age 9 b Ohio; Allen Carey was age 5 b Ohio; Annie Carey was age 1 b Ohio.^[3]

In 1880 Alexander Carey was age 46; he was a broom maker; his parents were born in Maryland. His wife Ruth Carey was age 43 b in Ohio as were her parents. John H Carey was age 19 b Ohio. Allen Carey was age 15 b Ohio. Annie Carey was age 11 b Ohio. Hellen Carey was age 8 b Ohio. Lizzie Carey was age 7 b Ohio. Emma Carey was age 1 b Ohio.^[4]

Son Frederick F Carey was age 18 in 1900.^[5]

A John Cary, age 50, b. in Maryland, carpenter, is a head of household in Well Township, Jefferson, Ohio in 1850. His wife Elizabeth was age 45 b in Maryland. Son John was age 19 b Ohio. Daughter Alice was age 16 b Ohio. Daughter Amanda was age 14 b Ohio. Daughter Mary E was age 12 b Ohio. Daughter Mariah was age 9 b Ohio. Daughter Alzina was age 7 b Ohio. This could be Alexander's birth family; he was age 15 at the time. Alexander is not found in Wells Township, Jefferson, Ohio in 1850.^[6]

There is a marriage record in Jefferson County between John Cary and Betsy McDevitt, 17 May 1826.^[7]
