Biography
Emily (Carley) Golding was born in Brightling, Sussex, England.
Emily Jane Carley was born shortly before 2 Nov 1851 in Brightling, Sussex, England to Stephen Carley and Emily Buss.[1] She was baptised on 2 Nov 1851 in Brightling.[2]
She lived with her parents in Brightling when she was young.[3]
By 1871, she had left home and was living in Hastings, Sussex working as a domestic servant for the family of rich widow from France.[4]
Emily married Charles Purton on 15 Apr 1876 in Brightling.[5] [6] [7] They had six children:
- Stephen Thomas Purton (1876-1956)
- Charles Frederick Purton (1878-1932)
- Montague Sidney Purton (1881-1927)
- Phoebe Eleanor Purton (1884-1973)
- Emily Louisa Purton (1887-1978)
- George Victor Purton (1891-1978)
They settled in Camberwell, London to raise their family.[8] [9]
Her husband died in 1893.
Emily gave birth to her daughter Mabel Grace Golding on the 16 Aug 1896 in Peckham, London.
In 1901, she was living in Peckham with Edmund Golding as husband and wife.[10]
Emily married Edmund William Golding in the second quarter of 1909 in Camberwell.[11]
On the 1911 England Census, they state that they have been married for 16 years but that is more likely the number of years they had been living together.[12]
Emily Jane Golding died in the first quarter of 1914 in Camberwell.[13] She was buried on 3 Mar 1914 in the Camberwell Old Cemetery.[14] [15] Emily was 62 years old.
