Biography

Admiral Sir William Carnegie, 7th Earl of Northesk, GCB was born on April 19, 1758 in Bruntsfield, Midlothian, Scotland, the son of Admiral Sir George Carnegie, 6th Earl of Northesk and Anne Melville.[1]


In 1771 he entered service in the Royal Navy and served in the Revolutionary Was as a Lieutenant aboard the frigate HMS Beaulieu and due to his conduct he was promoted to Post-captain (equivalent to present day Captain) was given command of the HMS Enterprise.Military[2]
