Obituary'
ISAAC CARRUTH DEAD.
Was Andover's Oldest Citizen, Having Reached 91 Years.
ANDOVER, Aug 14: Isaac Carruth, the oldest man in town, died this forenoon at the old homestead in West Parish, at the age of almost 92 years. He was a son of John Carruth, and was born in North Brookfield. Mass, Nov 5, 1803. He was twice married, his second wife, who is now living and is almost 90, being Anna D. Smith of Rutland, Mass. They were married in 1830, and in March 1834, settled in this town on the farm where he died. He served for some time as trustee of the Andover savings bank, and always had the respect and esteem of his fellow townspeople. In his advanced years he was quite active, and to the last had a clear mind and strong memory. He had a large knowledge of Andover history and events, and was a most interesting man to meet. The four sons by the second marriage have passed away, the last being Col Sumner Carruth, who died here a few years ago. He was colonel of the 35th Massachusetts volunteer infantry, and was breveted brigadier general.
