Biography

John J. Carter was born circa 1739, in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, established in 1721 from parts of Essex, King and Queen, and King William counties. On August 10, 1769, John married Sarah A. Crim. [1] Children of John and Sarah were born in Vander, Cumberland County, Virginia and include:

  • Jesse Carter, born 1770, wife's maiden name is Bramley
  • John T Carter, born March 24, 1771, died in February, 1856, in Vander, N.C. married Mary Tomme
  • James Henry Carter, born September 26, 1776, died December 9, 1867, in Henry County, Alabama
  • Catharine Carter, born circa 1778, married Cornelius S. Coffield, on March 1, 1812
  • Susanna Carter, born circa 1780, died before March 29, 1844, in Gibson, Tennessee, married Lewis Robinson
  • Tabitha Carter, born 1780, died 1832, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, married William Carter 1780-1845, a son of Samuel Carter, born 1753
