Maryetta was born in 1829 the daughter of John Cavender (b. Delaware) and Hannah Gibson (b. Ohio).
She was first married in 1882 to Benjamin Burton Headley, a local school teacher. There were no children born to their marriage and Benjamin passed away in 1894. She was again married to Joseph Sweazey, father-in-law to Benjamin Headley's nephew, George W. Headley. She was again widowed just three years later in 1900.
Maryetta passed away in 1928, just shy of her 80th birthday. Her death certificate stated she was born in Ripley County, Indiana but she (oldest child) was listed on all census records as born in Ohio, the other Cavender children were born in Indiana and likely did not know her place of nativity after her death. She was buried by Joseph Sweazey's daughter, Hester Ann (Sweazey) Shelton.
