Biography

Charles Caw was born at 23 Benvie Road in Dundee, Scotland, on 18 July 1894 at 5pm.

Charles Caw saved a boy from drowning in Broughty Ferry Harbour in January 1911.

Charles Caw sat his Civil Service entrance exam in 1909.

Charles Caw worked as a journalist. At first, he was employed by DC Thomson, but I believe he later worked for Glasgow newspapers - he moved from Dundee to live in Glasgow.

Charles Caw served in Gallipoli during the First World War, with the Black Watch regiment, I think. When he came back from Gallipoli, his mother did not recognise him when she met him at Broughty Ferry railway station - and he had terrible lice, too.

Charles Caw was affectionately known as 'Uncle Charlie'.

Here is Charles Caw in the 1921 Census, which was taken on Sunday 19 June 1921...

John Bryson, Head, 55, Perth, Tibbermore, Engineer, Anglo Indian Jute Mills, Calcutta. Grace Murray Caw Bryson, Wife, 52, Illinois, USA, [House Keeper, I think.] Charles Caw, step son, 26, Forfarshire, Dundee, Assistant Publishing (Manager Branch), Messrs D.C. Thomson and Co Ltd, Printers & Publishers. Location: 48 Monifieth Road, Broughty Ferry, Dundee.

Charles Caw was a sports journalist. In February 1958, he was supposed to be on the plane carrying the Manchester United team that crashed at Munich. However, there was a late change in plan and he did not get on the plane. Sadly, Charlie Caw died of a heart attack and hypertension on 8 February 1958, just two days after the disaster. He was 63. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Charles by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Charles:
