Michel Chalifoux dit Richard was the son of Jean Baptiste Richard and Josephte, of the Muskegon tribe (Swampy Cree). [1] He and Isabelle Collin were married according to the custom of the country circa 1805.
Michelle Richard and Isabelle Collin were baptized on the 28th of Feb 1832, [2]and their long standing marriage was confirmed by the church the following day, at St. François Xavier, St. Boniface, Red River, by Father Belcourt. [3]

This profile is compiled, primarily, on the current research and family as it is presented by Gail Morin.
In 1875 five living children of Michel Richard declared the death date of their father as 29 May 1874, and death place as Baie St. Paul. “Affidavit No. 3090 that his father Michel died 29 May 1874 intestate leaving sole heirs at law Antoine, Madeleine, Marie, Genevieve and Louis Richard.” [10]
In light of this affidavit the birth and death dates of Michel Richard, on this profile, are not the same as those offered by Gail Morin. On this profile the birth year is determined from census records and the death date is taken from the affidavit.
The use of the surname Chalifoux by Michel Richards at times, and by his older children, suggests the voyageur, Michel Chalifoux, may have been a man of influence to this family. It is possible two men have been previously combined and some sorting needs to be done.
In the St. Boniface records of births, baptisms, marriages and burials, there is a record of death of the voyageur, Michel Chalifoux. The record provides the more commonly used dates of birth and death (1763-1833) for the husband of Isabelle Collin, and father of her children. It is, however, not in agreement with the affidavit of the family.
"Michel Chalifoux, ancient voyageur, buried 26 October 1833 at St.Francois Xavier, White Horse Plains, died 25 October 1833 at the same place, age 70 years, in the presence of Joseph Gilbeau and Louis Gariepy, G. A. Belcourt priest." via Morin, Gail, St. Boniface (Saved From The Fire) 1825-1834 Baptisms, Marriages and Burials
Historian, Father Picton, related Michel Chalifoux was from the Maskinonge parish, Quebec. There is record of employment for Michel Chalifoux, the voyageur with the North West Company, in Red River, in 1804. [11]
Michel Chalifoux dit Richard was born about 1794[12] to Baptiste Richard and Josephte Masquegone[13]. Baptism took place at St. Boniface on 28 Feb 1832; his given age at the time was 38.[12]
Michel married Isabelle Collin (daughter of Antoine Collin and Louise, a Serpente woman) on 29 Feb 1832.[13] They had previously been married according to the custom of the country.[14] Isabelle passed away in 1864. Michel appears to have later married Rosalie (?) (Unknown).[15]
Michel passed away at Baie St. Paul, Manitoba on 29 May 1874.[15] Burial occurred on 31 May 1874.[15]

I ran into some huge confusion at this ancestor and just dropped it, at the time, noting the conflict on Michel's page, as I tried to sort through the conflicting information.
I have traced, by scrip and mostly through Gail Morin's research behind that, my husband's ancestry to Joseph. My husband's great, great grandfather is George, son of Joseph.
I was originally using Gail Morin's work, where Joseph Chalifoux, b. 1805, is listed as the oldest son of Michel Chalifoux dit Richard and Isabelle Colin. In Volume II (Kindle) Gail has 13 children listed for this couple.
I then ran into conflicting info, and was waiting for a book purchase and further research to get some info . . . and broke my leg (badly) in mid June which sent me in a different direction, yet to get back to this.
I did manage to purchase one book Gail references for the baptism of Joseph, his wife Josette, and their family, including George. The book is - Reverend Robert Terrill Rundle, Journal Of Baptisms & Marriages In Saskatchewan District - 1840-1848, The Rundle Journals, Publisher : Historical Society of Alberta, January 1, 1977, page 372;
I have those book pages on jpeg, if you have any interest.
In it I find that Joseph (b. 1805), father of George (by scrip and whose baptism is recorded in that book), shown as the son of Baptiste and Josette, making Joseph, likely, a brother to Michel, and not his son.
I am noticing some more recent changes made on wikitree with the addition of another Michel Chalifoux, which will likely give some clarity here.
Give me a day or two to look over the info.
This has been very confusing line indeed. The biggest issue seems to be that the Michel Chalifoux referenced in Gail Morin's research (1754-1833) married ELIZABETH Collin, while this (much) younger Michel married ISABELLE Collin. As such, Morin has attributed all of both of the Michels' children to the older Michel and Isabelle, who weren't a couple.
There were multiple profiles on Wikitree for Michel with varying degrees of conflated information, but I think I've found and sorted all of them now. Arlene, your notes regarding the scrip affidavit were absolutely invaluable in de-conflating these two men!
