If this Francis was the son of Edward Chamberlayne and Jane Unknown, he was probably named after his grandfather's brother Francis Chamberlayne, who was a gentleman of London.
Only one record has been found for his death, and none for his birth. It is possible that this person is the same person as Frances Chamberlayne, for whom a birth record exists, but no death record.
Burial Record of Francis? (sic) Chamberlayne |
This 'Francis' is not mentioned alongside his brothers and sisters in the will of their father's uncle Francis Chamberlayne, Grocer of London, [1]who bequeathed ten pounds (equivalent to about £1,137.79 today) to all of Edward's children, except Francis. Francis Chamberlayne Senior wrote his will on 26 December 1694 and died on 12 May 1695. Probate was on 17 June 1695.
Either this person was born after Francis Sr. wrote his will, or had already died.
If this Francis is the same person as Frances Chamberlayne, then the discrepancy has been caused by the spelling: Ms (Mistress?) Francis in the record of 14 February 1707, (Ms? Francis Chamberlayne of Princethorpe').
