Biography

Zetha Leah Chambers was born 26 Sep 1893 in Tahlequah, Tahlequah District, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, United States (Oklahama)[1][2] [3] [4] Leah was the daughter of James Chambers and Zetha Leah Ridgeway.[4] Her father was employed by the Braden Copper Company as a Railroad Superintendent at the El Teniente Mine in Sewell, Chile, where she met her husband Horace Reynolds Graham Sr. They were married in Sewell on April 22, 1913.[4]

She passed away in September of 1969 at her home in Memphis, Tennessee.

Nana hated her first name. She never used it and would not tell anyone that did not know what it was. Those few that knew it would not risk her ire by mentioning it. I didn't learn it until I grew interested in genealogy, long after her death. I think it is a pretty name, if a bit unusual.

Most other family trees on Ancestry and elsewhere, show her first name as "Detha". Examination of her signature on a passport application clearly shows it to be "Zetha", as does the Marriage Certificate. She hated the name, and would never tell her children or grandchildren what it was.
