Biography

According to a photograph of his headstone, Francis Morgan Chapman was born August 26, 1807^[1]in Connecticut, United States the son of Amos Chapman and Amey Elizabeth (Morgan) Chapman.^[2][3]

He married Lucy A. Truman on January 18, 1829 at Norwich, New London, Connecticut.^[4]five children of this couple (all born in Connecticut) are found in the 1860 census taken at Preston, New London, Connecticut:^[5]

1. William F. Chapman who was 27 years of age.
2. Lucy H. Chapman who was 22 years of age.
3. Duty G. Chapman a male who was 21 years.
4. Thomas M. Chapman who was 18 years.
5. Abby G. Chapman who was 15 years.

The 1870 census finds Francis and Lucy living at Johnston, Providence Rhode Island where he is a farmer and she keeps the house.^[2]

Francis Morgan Chapman died at age 79 years, on December 23, 1886 at Johnston, Providence, Rhode Island.^[3]He was buried at Norwich, New London, Connecticut at the Hamilton Avenue Cemetery on December 23, 1886.^[1]
