Hugo Francis Guy Charteris was born on 11 December 1922. He was the son of Captain Hon. Guy Lawrence Charteris and Frances Lucy Tennant.
He was a Scottish novelist and screenwriter. He wrote nine novels, seventeen television screenplays and numerous children's books and short stories.
He was decorated with the award of the Military Cross (M.C.).
Hugo married Virginia Mary Forbes Adam (daughter of Colin Gurden Forbes Adam and Hon. Irene Constance Lawley) on 24 April 1948.
