Biography

Lambert Chenery was born about 1593 .[1] He was born in England, and came to Watertown, Massachusetts about 1636. He removed to Dedham, Massachusetts after that.[2][3]

Lambert married Tamazine Hewes, daughter of Joshua Hewes of Roxbury, Massachusetts May 4, 1656. She died June 2, 1670 at Watertown, Massachusetts. She was likely a second wife per this source.[2] (See Research Notes.)

Lambert Chinery was one of the grantors of Dedham in 1635. He was one of the signers of the "Dedham Covenant".[2] The Covenant of Dedham, Massachusetts was first signed on August 15, 1636. Those who signed the Covenant are listed in the reference cited, in the order in which they signed. #6 Lambert Generye.[4]

Known children of Lambert Chinery, first two sons born by his unknown first wife (see Research Notes), the daughter born by second wife Tamazen, are:[2][1]

  • Isaac, b about 1630 in England; d in Dedham; m Elizabeth Gamlyn about 1636 (see also this source showing Lambert is his father: [5])
  • John, b. about 1630 in England; lived in Watertown, married Sarah, widow of Thomas Boylston, died in 1675 of wounds sustained in fighting King Philip's Indian braves.
  • Mary, b Dec 24, 1659 ,[6]

Lambert Chinery died Jan 30, 1674-5 at Dedham, Massachusetts.[7]

Research Notes

One source, respected NE genealogist at the turn of the 20th century, Mary Lovering Holman, concluded that a "Widow Ellis," probably married and migrated with Lambert Genery, along with her sons Richard and Joseph.[9]Ellis-15229 20:49, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
