Lillie (Chesser) Barnes was born in Accomack County

Lillie^[1] was born in 1885. She was the daughter of Purnell Houghton Chesser and Theodosia Ayres. Lillie married Oscar Littleton Barnes in 1916. She passed away in 1983.

Lillie was a twin of Lula Chesser.

Barnes, a 40 year old widower, the son of Thos. H. Barnes and Nancy Barnes and she was shown as Lillie Grace Chesser, age 30, the daughter of Purnell H. Chesser and Theodosia Chesser.^[1]

Lillie was listed with her husband in the census of 1920 at Metompkin, Accomack Co, VA. The household was headed by O.L. Barnes, a 46 year old farmer. Listed with him were Lillie Barnes, a 35 year old wife; Theodocia Barnes, a 3 year old daughter; and Amanda Barnes, a 1 year old daughter^[4]

Lillie was listed with her husband in the census of 1930 at Metompkin, Accomack Co, VA. The household was headed by Oscar L. Barnes, a 55 year old farmer. Listed with him were Lillie G. Barnes, a 45 year old wife; Theodora Barnes, a 13 year old daughter; and Amanda V. Barnes, a 10 year old daughter.^[5]

She appeared on the census of 1940 at Eastern State Hospital for the Insane, Jamestown, James City Co, VA. She was shown as Lillie G. Barnes, a 54 year old patient from Accomack Co, VA.^[6]

She was named in her brother's obituary on 3 November 1965 at Wabasso, Indian River Co, FL. Warren L. Chesser, 77, longtime resident of Wabasso, died Wednesday at his home. He has lived here since 1907, moving from Assawoman, Va. Chesser was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star in Sebastian, and was a member of Grace Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Olive; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Louise Osborne, of Melbourne and Mrs. Martha Nordhoff, of Fort Lauderdale; two sons, John of Melbourne and Gordon W. of Rosemont, Pa; three brothers, J.R. of Wabasso, L.L. of Temperanceville, Va. and Lemuel, of Sebastian: two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Barnes, of Nelsonia, Va., and Mrs. Esther Pfarr, of Wabasso; and seven grandchildren.^[7]

She died on 18 July 1983 at age 98.^[2]

Lillie was buried at Parksley Cemetery, Accomack Co, VA.^[2]
