Biography

David Charles Chidlow was born 22 December 1903 in Strathroy, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada. ^[1] His parents took him and his little brother Stewart across Canada on a harvest train to Calgary, where the family settled. He was confirmed on Easter Day at St. Michael's church.^[2]

On Dave's 20th birthday, he started his apprenticeship at the Herald earning $10 a week. At that time the Herald was on 7th Avenue. He became a pressman for the Calgary Herald, remaining with them until 29 Dec 1970.

Dave married Hazel Frohberger 20 Oct 1941 in Calgary. ^[3] They rented for a while before buying a house at 424 - 24 Avenue N.E. in Calgary. They lived there between May 1951 and 1984.

Dave died 3 Jul 1984 in Calgary. ^[4] His obituary included "A keen golfer, Chidlow was instrumental in the formation of a Herald golf team, and was a charter member of the Calgary Commercial Golf League, founded in 1934. He was also president of the league for a number of years." ^[5] His remains were buried 6 Jul 1984 in Queen's Park Cemetery, Calgary. ^[6]
