Biography

Antonino Cinquemani is the son of Rocco Cinquemani and Biagia Piazza, born and baptized 7 November 1794 in Corleone. He is named after his paternal grandfather, as is traditional for the first born son.

His baptismal record originally describes him as the son of unknown parents. This is crossed out and his parents' names are written in above the line. His mother is called ‘’Chiazza’’ in this record and elsewhere, and is also occasionally called di Miceli. His godparents are Giuseppe and Francesca Trumbaturi, a married couple.

Antonino's parents marry three months after he is born.

In early 1807, Antonino, reportedly age ten (he is 12) lives with his parents and a younger brother in the canzoneria, in Corleone.

Antonino is a farmer (agricola), the second husband of Lucia Raineri, a peasant (contadina). They marry on 9 February 1835. Their parents have all passed away by this time.

Antonino and Lucia have six known children: Francesco Paolo (1835), Maria Concetta (1837), two sons named Calogero (1845 and 1847), Rocco (1842), and Biagio (1850).

In some records, Lucia is called Mancuso, after her mother, and in others, di Martino or some other variant on her first husband's name, Marino.

Lucia marries Antonino Cinquemani on 9 February 1835. Their parents have all died by this time.

Lucia and Antonino have at least six children: Francesco Paolo (c. 1835), Maria Concetta (1837), Rocco (1842), two sons named Calogero (1845 and 1847), and Biagio (1850).

Lucia also take in a number of foundlings as a wet nurse. Those which have been identified from baptismal or death records are: Maria (1837), two named Francesca (1837 and c. 1844), two named Giuseppe (1838 and c. 1842), two named Rocco (1838 and 1839), Lucia (c. 1841), Calogero (c. 1843), Emilia (c. 1846), Giovanni (1848), Francesco (1848), and Michaela (c. 1851).

Francesco Paolo is born and baptized on 31 January 1835. This record calls his mother Lucia di Martino. Francesco Paolo is named after his paternal uncle. Although he is born the week before his parents marry, this record calls them a married couple. (They would have already posted banns.) His godparents are Giovanni Battista and Rosaria Marchese, a married couple.

Maria Concetta is born and baptized on 3 October 1837. Her godparents are Salvatore Cannella and Biagia Cascio, who are not married.

Francesco Paolo dies, reportedly at age four (he is three and a half) on 13 June 1838.

Lucia and Antonino's own son is born and baptized Rocco, named after his paternal grandfather, on 18 February 1842. His godparents are Domenico Napoli and Bernarda Milazzo, wife of Calogero di Giglia. It is interesting that the Cinquemanis take in two foundlings by this name before naming their own son Rocco.

The first Calogero is born and baptized on 28 January 1845. He dies on 22 March 1845 at two months of age.

Rocco dies on 28 October 1846 at four years of age. He shares a name with Antonino's father.

The second Calogero is born 9 August 1847. According to his birth record, Antonino is 46 years old (b. 1801), and Lucia is 35 (b. 1812).

Biagio is born and baptized on 29 November 1850. His godparents are Liborio di Frisco and Emmanuela Piazza, who are not married. He dies on 27 June 1851 at seven months of age.

Antonino dies at age 78 on 1 June 1873. Lucia survives him.

Calogero marries twice, first to Francesca Missero, who dies 4 March 1875, and then to Calogera Cariamo in 1883, based on allegati from the latter marriage.

When Lucia dies on 29 March 1887, Antonino has already passed away.
