According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles, Claudius in the year 47 AD went with an army into Britain and overcame the island, and subdued all the Picts and Welsh to the rule of the Romans. The fight was completed in the fourth year of his reign. In the year of the great famine in Syria which was foretold in the Acts of the Apostles by Agabus the sage. Then Nero received the kingdom after Claudius, who nearly lost the island of Britain through his idleness.
