James Cleland apparently opperated a Ferry 1792 that crossed the Cheat River

He is enumerated 1790 in Monongalia County, VA with 7 in his house.

I descend from a Thomas Horace Cleland who's father and Uncle came to Kentucky from VA. since this James is the only Cleland in VA 1790 I strongly supect that Thomas Horace Cleland born 22 MAY 1778 in Fairfax County, Virginia is a Presbyterian Minister in KY and a Horatio Cleland born about 1790 may be sons of this James Cleland.

I believe that you are talking about James Cleland (Clelland), son of James MacClelland and Ann Pierpont. b. 1780 and d. aft 1850 in Taylor County VA. James Clelland was first married to Massie Wilson and had five children (John, James, Rebecca, Massy and Mary). Then he married Sarah "Sally" Morgan, dau. of Zacquill Morgan and Drusilla Springer. They had two children Druscilla Clelland and Zacquill Clelland. There are several Morgans within our family. Are you a descendant of the Prickett family? This is also a branch of the family that I am somewhat familiar with. Contact me by e-mail if I can assist with any information. Dixie dsorenson@snet.net

I am curious why James Clelland's death is set as "after 1850" when the bio you posted from Find A Grave places his death at Jan 8, 1849?
