Biography

Carrie was born in 1863. She was the daughter of George Cleveland and Pamelia Lewis. ^[1]

She married Herbert Gardner in 1890. ^[2]

They lived in Rockford where he ran a restaurant. ^[3][4][5][6]

After her husband died she lived in Rockford with her son Frank. ^[7]

Carrie passed away in 1953. ^[8]

Obituary

GARDNER—Mrs. Carrie E. Gardner, 90, died at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 1953 after a brief illness.

Born April 1, 1863, near Rockford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Cleveland. Lived almost her entire life in Rockford. Married to H. William Gardner in Rockford, Oct. 16. 1890. He died in 1898.

Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Graduated from Rockford Female Seminary, now Rockford College.

Survivors include two sons, Herbert C., Chicago; Frank L., Rockford; granddaughter, Mrs. Lora Remba, New York City; two grandsons, Lt. George Gardner, Navy, Long Island, New York; Robert Gardner, Rockford. A son, George, died in 1921 and three brothers died previously.

Services at 3 p.m Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian with the Rev. Hal Lloyd officiating. ^[9]
