On 5 Apr 1866, he married Lucinda Davis Pinney, daughter of Ziba Davis and widow of Wilson Pinney. Their children were Louisa, Anna, May, Frederick, John and Joseph.
Alexander was buried after 6 October 1885 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Randolph Co., IN.
