Anne was born in England around 1811, daughter of Samuel Clowes. He came to Kingston, Ontario, prior to 1823, and as a civil engineer worked on the Rideau and Welland Canals. Ann married Paul Peterson in the early 1820s. They farmed in Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward County. They had two daughters and adopted a third. Apparently she died between the 1871 and 1881 censuses.
