Mary Conant was baptized at East Budleigh, Devon, England on January 20, 1617/8, daughter of Richard and Jane (Slade) Conant. As her father died in 1625,[1] she immigrated to Salem, Massachusetts Bay, likely under the protection of her uncle Roger Conant with her sister Jane.[2]
She married Hiliard Veren on April 12, 1641 at Salem, Massachusetts.[3][1][2] Hiliard was baptized at Salisbury, Wiltshire, England on April 3, 1621/2[4], son of Philip and Dorcas (___) Verin, and came to Salem in 1635 with his father. [1][4][5]
Mary's uncle, Roger Conant, in his will written on March 1, 1667/8, left L3 to 'my cousin Mary, wife of Hiliard Veren'.[6][1]
Hiliard Sr. died at Salem on December 20, 1683. [1][3][5]
On March 27, 1684, Benjamin Marston and Samuel Williams, administrators of his estate, verified to the the court that the estate inventory presented to the court and valued at L579 10s 1d was accurate to their knowledge. [7]
On January 25, 1692/3, her daughter widow Mary Williams, posted bond as administrator of her mother widow Mary Veren's estate. [8]
In March, 1696, John Woodhall and Elizabeth Woodhall testified that they heard widow Mary Veren state several years prior, that the dwelling house of Hiliard Veren, deceased, was then that of her daughter Mary Williams and her husband Samuel Williams (now deceased). [8]
On September 14, 1696, Benjamin Marston, husband of Abigail Veren deceased, and father to her only child Abigail Marston, petitioned the court indicating he felt that the the accounting regarding the dwelling house provided by Mary Williams was wrong and asked the court to not allow the proving of the estate division until the matter was settled. [8]
