Phillip Constable was born 25 Feb 1838 in Horsham, Sussex, England to Sarah Constable (who was unmarried at the time). He was christened in Horsham on 8 Apr 1838.[1] [Some later records give his date of birth as 25 Feb 1837.]
In 1841 Phillip Constable (age 3) lived at Southwater near Horsham with his grandfather James (67-71), grandmother Sarah (55-59), and uncle James (17-21).[2] His mother Sarah (20-24) was living in Horsham.
Phillip's mother married Thomas Sturt in 1843.
In 1851 Philip Constable (age 13, Agricultural Labourer) lived in West Grinstead, Sussex with his mother Sarah Sturt (32), stepfather Thomas Sturt (30, Waggoner), and four half-siblings: James (7, Scholar), Thomas (5), Sarah (3), and Henry (1).[3]
Phillip immigrated to the United States in 1858. Phillipp Constable (age 20, Farmer) sailed aboard the SS Amazon from London, arriving in New York on 8 Apr 1858.[4]
In 1860 Philip Constable (age 21, Carpenter) lived at a boarding house in 1st Ward Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.[5]
Phillip Constable married Phillis Constable around 1860. [Phillip and Phillis were most likely cousins once removed - her father Henry was the son of William & Elizabeth Constable, as was Phillip's grandfather.]

In 1870 Philip Constable (age 32, ...) lived in Millville Borough, Cambria County (nearest post office: Johnstown) with his wife Philis (33, Keeping House) and five children: M A (10), Anna (6), Harriet (4), David (3), and Jacob(?) (1).[6]
In 1880 Philop Constble (age 43, Laborer) lived in Lower Yoder, Cambria County with his wife Phillis (43, Keeping House) and six children: Henrietta (19), Anna (16), Harriet (14), David (12), Edith (10), and Willie (7).[7]
Phillip's wife passed away in 1895.
In 1900 Philip Constable (age 63, Day Laborer at Mill) lived in Johnstown City Ward 18 with his daughter Edith (30) and grandson Milford Constable (13, At School).[8]
In 1910 Philipp Constable (age 73) lived at Laurell Ave in Johnstown Ward 20 with his son-in-law Charles H Williams (42, Laborer at Steel Works) and daughter Edith U Williams (38).[9]
Philip Constable passed away on 12 May 1920 in Johnstown - his death record included the following details: He was a retired mill hand at Cambria Steel Co; his mother was Sarah Constable and his father was not known; cause of death was Chronic Myocarditis; his son David H Constable was the informant.[10] He is buried at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown.[11]
