Biography

Joel was born in 1879 in Alabama. He was the son of William Cook and Nancy Britt. In 1880, the family was living in White Plains, Calhoun County, Alabama.[1] By 1900, they had moved to Bienville Parish, Louisiana.[2]

Joel registered for the WWI draft in 1918 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. He was a self-employed farmer at the time. His father was listed as his nearest relative. His physical description was medium build and height with blue eyes and gray hair. He was 39 years old.[3]

By 1920, he was living with his widowed father and siblings in Bienville Parish, Louisiana.[4] By 1940, he had moved into his sister Artie's household in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, with her husband William Stewart, and their son (Edwin/Edward), and Edwin's wife and children. Joel apparently never married.[5]

In 1942, Joel registered for the WWII draft in Fairview-Alpha, Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. He was 63 and unemployed. He listed his brother-in-law, W M Stewart, as the person who would always know his address.[6]

Joel passed away in 1946.[7] Burial was in the Old Saline Baptist Church Cemetery in Castor, Bienville Parish, Louisiana.[8]
